Canadiens Open Pre-Season Camp

By Matt Sullivan (Montreal Canadiens) On Saturday 21st September 2024 / 9:29pm

The reboot PHL draft is done, and it looks like we are only days away from Pre-Season action in Brossard, Quebec for the Canadiens de Montreal. After a grueling month of the draft, the picks are in and the roster is set, now its time for the players and coaches to determine who makes the opening day roster for the Habs.

In the inaugural draft, newly appointed Canadiens GM Matthew Sullivan definitely favorized the long term outlook of the roster, however their are plenty of notable players on the expected roster heading into the season.

The top line will likely consist of Jordan Kyrou, Patrik Laine, and Dylan Cozens, with Darnell Nurse and Owen Power manning the back-end. The second line pencils in as Dawson Mercer in between Kent Johnson and Kirby Dach  with Ivan Provorov and Carson Soucy on defense. The third line will likely consist of veteran Barclay Goodrow, Josh Anderson and Nicolas Deslauriers with Jonathan Kovacevic and Pierre-Oliver Joseph rounding out the top 6 defenseman. The 4th line will feature some toughness with Liam O'Brien, Brendan Lemieux and an open spot for the 12th forward, which Zachary Bolduc as the likely favorite heading into camp. Inbetween the crease its Sam Montembault expected to get most starts, with veteran John Gibson as the 1B option.

Youngsters expected at camp who could try for a roster spot but will almost definitely be headed back to junior include Macklin Celebrini, David Reinbacher, Owen Pickering, Nolan Allen, Colby Barlow, Brayden Yager, Xavier Bourgoult and Zachry L'Hreaux just to name a few.

All in all, it was a fun draft, and the Canadiens, while having some definite roster holes, are hoping to contend for the decades to come with the roster they have built, especially when the young guns start to develop in the system over the coming year. We look forward to the start of the season.
